Farmer’s golf (called Boerengolf in Dutch) is a farmland game
modeled after golf. Mapleton’s is the first to open a course in Ontario
Farmer’s golf is played with a special wooden golf club, with a club head in the shape of a wooden shoe, or clog (in Dutch:klomp).
A farmer’s golf ball has a 20-centimeter diameter, making it much larger than a traditional golf ball. A bucket in the ground and a flagpole beside it makes the hole. The 8 to 10 holes have, roughly 200 meters distance between them. The defining feature of Farmer’s Golf is that the game is played on an otherwise unaltered farm. Obstacles and hazards include anything one might find on the farm, including live cows, ditches and barbed wire and, of course, cow plops
The objective, like traditional golf, is to play a round of ten holes in the least number of strokes. There are no age limits, handicaps or skills required - just the desire to have fun.
Each hole has a beginning and end point. The end point is at “the pin”, a bucket dug into the ground with a numbered flag. The pin is also the starting point for the following hole.
The game is played between two groups. The group with the smallest number of strokes required to finish all the holes is the winner.
