The Future

We realize that we have only made small steps in the right direction. There is much work still to be done. One of our biggest concerns is the amount of unsustainable energy we still use. In 2008 Mapleton’s will put up solar panels to supply our farm with hot water, which must be used in abundance to clean the milk lines and equipment. We will also be planting switch grass for fuel-pellets to replace the oil that is now used to feed the furnace in the greenhouse, as well as canola for bio-diesel to run our tractors. Eventually, we plan to build a wind turbine to meet our electricity needs.
